Symbolically Fall

Labor Day weekend may bring to mind images of backyard barbecues, swimming in the pool, and relaxing by the lake. Whatever image comes to mind for you, this three day weekend is often symbolic of the end of summer and the beginning of fall. With that in mind it is important to make sure that you are properly attending to your landscaping. With the end of August upon us, we wanted to share our list of landscaping tips for the month of September.

Fall Color

Fall Mums

Mums are a great addition for fall color.

Whether you choose to install a flower bed, or a few potted ornamental plants. A little fall color can help make your landscaping pop.

Prune

Just because the month on the calendar is changing, it does not mean that shrubs and bushes are done growing. Make sure you continue to prune those shrubs and bushes in your residential or business landscaping. This will help significantly come spring time when they are not overgrown.

Mow, Trim, and Edge

The grass is not dormant yet, therefore these basic lawn maintenance tasks must continue. It is easier to continue maintaining them now rather than having to deal with overgrowth in the spring.

Inspect for Disease

We can not emphasize this enough! It is important to regularly inspect trees, bushes, shrubs, and plants for signs of disease. If you see something out of the ordinary, our certified arborists will gladly take a look and help to identify what is taking place. If it is confirmed that your trees or plants are suffering from insect infestation or disease, we will advise and treat accordingly.

Maintain Crape Myrtles

These southern beauties stay beautiful with proper maintenance. The fall is the perfect time to remove the faded flower heads from your Crape Myrtles.

Weed Control

Take a look around. Do you notice any weeds in the grass or flower beds? If so, it may be time to apply a post-emergent.

Green Control

Many of the varieties of grass in the north Georgia area go dormant for the winter. If you have fescue grass, and you like to see the luscious greens, then September 15th marks the date that you should begin your fall preparation for your yard. This is the perfect time, as long as weather allows, to begin aerating, overseeding, and fertilizing your fescue.
